Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny tests positive for COVID-19

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has tested positive for COVID-19 while away with Egypt.

This is coming days after international teammate and Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah tested positive for COVID-19.

The 28-year-old is not showing any symptoms but tested positive on arrival in Togo for Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Tuesday.

On Monday, the Premier League announced 16 positive results from 1,207 players and club staff tested for coronavirus between 9 and 15 November. Those players and staff who tested positive will self-isolate for 10 days.

El Neny played against Togo in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on Saturday but will now miss the return leg.

His agent Alan Nazmy posted on Twitter Monday evening: “Elneny Positive Cov19 get well soon.”

The news means Elneny will miss Arsenal’s trip to Leeds on Sunday, as well as their Europa League clash at Molde next week.
